The tournament rules will be national high school federation. The format for this tournament will be pool play on Friday, and Qualifying Round and Bracket Play on Saturday. Each match will be rally scoring to 25, best two sets out of three. Set three, if necessary, will be to 25 points. There will be no caps.
FRIDAY
Friday pool play will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Durango, Palo Verde, Desert Oasis, and Foothill. All teams will participate in pool play at their designated locations. After pool play, all teams will play in a Qualifying Round on Saturday morning.
- 1st place teams will play at Durango
- 2nd place teams will play at Palo Verde
- 3rd place teams will play at Desert Oasis
- 4th place teams will play at Foothill

SATURDAY
Qualifying Rounds on Saturday begin at 8:00 a.m. at Durango, Palo Verde, Desert Oasis, and Foothill High School.
The Championship Match will occur at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, Sept.23, at Durango High School.
At Durango: The winners of the Championship Qualifying Rounds will play in the Championship Division Bracket, while the losers will compete in the Silver Division Bracket.
At Palo Verde: The winners of the Bronze Qualifying Rounds will play in the Bronze Division Bracket, while the losers will compete in the Competition Division Bracket.
At Desert Oasis: The winners of the Classic Qualifying Rounds will play in the Classic Division Bracket, while the losers will compete in the Contender Division Bracket.
At Foothill: The winners of the Challenger Qualifying Rounds will play in the Challenger Division Bracket, while the losers will compete in the Character Division Bracket.
AWARDS
Team trophies will be awarded to the Champions, Runner-up, and Third-place teams in the Championship Division. Silver, Bronze, Competition, Classic, Contender, Challenger, and Character Divisions winners will receive a trophy. Awards will be given to 16 All-Tournament team members, which includes the Most Valuable Player.
WITHDRAWLS
If a team must withdraw from the tournament on Saturday, that team’s last opponent will advance. All teams are expected to play in all assigned matches.
TRAINING SERVICES
A certified trainer will be at all sites throughout the tournament.
REFEREE ASSIGNMENTS
Teams will not have any officiating duties throughout the tournament: however, this may unexpectedly change. We hope it does not.
MATCH TIMES
Matches may start before the scheduled time on Friday and Saturday.
VOLLEYBALLS
On each of the four courts at all sites, there will be one cart with 20 balls. If this suits your team, you do not have to bring volleyballs.
SEATING
Please tell your players not to sit in the seats and the three-tier bleachers in the gym. These seats are for the fans who paid to watch the matches.
WARM-UP PROCEDURES
Ten minutes between matches, each team will have five minutes for hitting and serving.
TIE BREAKING PROCEDURES
Two Teams with Identical Match Records:
- Use head to head results.
Three Teams with Identical Match Records:
- In a pool with one team advancing to the Championship Round and a three-way tie in match record for 1st (in a 4-team pool, all teams are 2-1 in match record).
SEEDING TIE BREAKER SETS
The seeds for teams tied in match record involved in the tie breaker sets are determined by:
1) Set Percentage – The total number of sets played in the pool (sets won divided by total sets played). The team with the highest set percentage is seeded first.
2) If teams are still tied: Point Percentage – Each team’s total points scored divided by the total points scored by the team’s opponents in that pool. The team with the highest point percentage is seeded first.
3) If teams are still tied: Coin toss

All three teams will participate in tie breaker sets.
Set 1: The #2 seed will play the #3 seed. The loser of Set 1 will be third place in the pool.
Set 2: The winner of Set 1 will play the #1 seed. The winner of Set 2 will be first in the pool and the loser will be second.
Each set is to 25 points.
If, for any reason, one of the tied teams is unavailable for the resolution of the tie at the time the court official is ready to proceed, that team will automatically become the third place team, and the other two teams will play one tie breaker set.
